Position Summary:  The Accounting Clerk is primarily responsible for the clerical and administrative functions of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (CPFB) finance department.  The position is engaged in a range of financial and administrative activities, including agency accounts receivables, accounts payable, procurement, cash receipts processing, and other accounting and administrative duties within the Finance department.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Effectively coordinate the cash disbursements cycle by entering in vendor invoices, expense reports, and other disbursements in an accurate and timely manner.  Accurately code, allocate, and post invoices and other transactions to general ledger accounts, coordinate with Directors and Managers to obtain necessary approval of vendor invoices and purchase orders, and prepare checks for appropriate signatures. 

  • Effectively research and investigate variances and discrepancies in accounting records, and communicate issues to the Director of Finance and Accounting and others, as necessary.

  • Maintain complete and organized vendor and invoice files, and coordinate on-site and off-site storage of business records.

  • Assist the finance staff with month-end closing procedures, propose and record journal entries, and assist with preparation of monthly financial statements and other reports as needed.

  • Assist the Staff Accountant with processing agency payments, accounts receivable payments, and bank deposits in an accurate and timely manner. 

  • Provide administrative support to the Director of Finance and Accounting and others as needed. 

  • Assist the Receptionist with mail processing and front desk operations when needed.

  • Assist the Director of Finance and Accounting and Director of Human Resources on Human Resources matters, as needed.

Education and Experience:

Education:  High school diploma required; Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the organization’s computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, ECCA systems, telecommunications, and internet applications.

  • Must possess efficient data entry skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Must be highly organized with the ability to establish appropriate priorities to meet deadlines.

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Work independently as well as a member of a group or team.

  • Handle confidential information.

  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (machines, tools, and devices) used in performing only the essential function include computer and related equipment, typewriter, calculator, photocopier, fax machine, and telephone.
