Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Raising Awareness of Hunger During September’s Hunger Action Month
Hunger-Relief Organizations Encourage the Public Support the 49 Million People Who Struggle with Hunger in America
Harrisburg, PA –September as Hunger Action MonthTM. This nationwide initiative is designed to raised awareness and mobilize the public to take action and join the movement to help end hunger. Hunger advocates from our area and across the country are working together to shine a light on the issue of hunger and the 1 in 6 people who face hunger in America – including more than 400,000 people here in central PA.
“One in eight people, including one in five children in central PA struggle with hunger,” said Joe Arthur, executive director of Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has developed several ways that our community can rally around during Hunger Action Month as we continue our fight to solve this issue,” said Arthur. “Whether its monetary or food donations, or volunteer time, our community can come together to fight hunger because it is an issue that effects everyone – our child’s classmate, an office co-worker or senior down the street.”
On Hunger Action Day, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank will be presenting its Inaugural Hunger Action Heroes at its Hunger Action Day Breakfast: Bold Goal Report on Thursday, September 8. The 2016 Hunger Heroes are:
Hunger Hero Volunteer: Kevin Hoffman
Hunger Hero Volunteer Group: The Fabulous Food Packers
Hunger Hero Advocate: Dan Reisteter
Hunger Hero Food Donor: Lady Moon Farms
Hunger Hero Corporate Partner: PSECU
Hunger Hero Donor: Mrs. Ellen Foster
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank has developed an online plate challenge and virtual food drive online initiative. To get involved, supporters can write on a paper plate what they can do to help end hunger and post the picture to their social media channels and tag the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Supporters can also participate and challenge friends and family with a virtual food drive.
Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is one of 200 member Feeding America food banks, which serves every county in the United States and provides over 3 billion meals each year to Americans in need.
