Disney/ABC Share the Joy Campaign Awards $15,000 to Central Pennsylvania Food Bank
The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, a member the Feeding America® national network of food banks, today announced a $15,000 grant from Disney and ABC to support local food programs in the 27 central Pennsylvania counties the Food Bank serves.
The donation is part of Disney and ABC's "Share the Joy" campaign to inspire kids and families to join in sharing the joy by volunteering and giving back to those who need it most, including providing much-needed food to families facing hunger.
These funds will be used by the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to underwrite a portion of the Mid Atlantic Regional Produce Cooperative (MARC). MARC is an innovative program for capturing produce at nearby ports using a cooperative to bid on surplus fresh produce at a low cost. The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, in partnership with Feeding Pennsylvania and 24 Feeding America Food Banks, created MARC to enable access to more than 1.2 million pounds of produce in the first year with substantial growth thereafter. Much of this produce is hand-held fruits suitable for immediate consumption by children and their families.
