Nationwide Foundation Awards$50,000 Grant to Central Pennsylvania Food Bank
Harrisburg, PA (June 25, 2018) – The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank today announced the receipt of a $50,000 grant from the Nationwide Foundation to fund hunger relief efforts in central Pennsylvania.
The Food Bank has a Bold Goal of providing enough nutritious food to everyone struggling with hunger in each of the 27 counties it serves by 2025. With this commitment to healthier options, the Food Bank will use the grant to purchase whole fruits and vegetables through its partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Cooperative (MARC). MARC is a regional produce distribution system for 23 Feeding America food banks from New England to Virginia, which currently distributes approximately 1.5 million pounds of produce per month.
The grant will also help the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank increase fresh offerings through its Fresh Express Mobile Pantry and MilitaryShare programs.
“Our food bank is often the primary source of fresh produce for our neighbors struggling with hunger,” said Joe Arthur, executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “Last year, we distributed more than 10 million pounds of fresh produce and we are committed to increasing that amount this year. We thank the Nationwide Foundation for recognizing this need and for supporting our efforts to increase access to fresh produce in our communities.”
