Something big is happening at Panera Bread, and you’re invited! On Thursday, March 10th, local Panera bakery-cafes are inviting customers to take part in its ‘Eat Soup. Raise Dough’ event in support of the company’s Operation Dough-Nation® recipient, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Participating bakery-cafes will accept donations on behalf of the food bank as part of its Community Breadbox ™ program. Donation containers are near the registers for customers to contribute. Through this program, Panera will match a portion of the donations collected. The bakery-cafes will also join in by donating $1 for every bowl of the New Chicken Noodle Soup sold on that day. Participating central PA bakery-cafes include: Harrisburg, Camp Hill, Carlisle, Hanover, Hershey, Mechanicsburg, Chambersburg, Lancaster, and York.
Panera Bread will also be celebrating new delicious and nutritious menu items by sharing free samples throughout the day, including the Thai Chopped Chicken Salad, Wild Berry Smoothie./p>
Nationwide, Panera Bread and its franchisees have helped numerous non-profit organizations through Operation Dough-Nation. Thanks to the generosity of Panera customers and the Community Breadbox program, more than $1 million was donated in 2010 to dozens of charities, including local food banks and pantries, Meals on Wheels, Make-A-Wish Foundation, American Cancer Society, Special Olympics, and Habitat for Humanity and many others. Panera Bread bakery-cafes collectively donated over $85 million worth of unsold bread and baked goods in 2010 to help people in need.
