Wegmans Food Markets has donated more than 20,000 pounds of food to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank as part of a cooperative project with WITF-FM listeners. As part of a one-day special fundraising and food-raising campaign, Wegmans donated one pound of food to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for every dollar WITF-FM listeners donated to WITF. The special one-day promotion, held on Thursday, November 7, raised more than $20,000 for WITF, resulting in the full match of 20,000 pounds of food from Wegmans for the Food Bank. The ten tons of food will provide nearly 17,000 meals in central PA.
“I want to thank the generous listeners of WITF, and Wegmans, for making this donation possible,” said Central Pennsylvania Food Bank Executive Director Joe Arthur. “The number of people needing food assistance is at an all-time high and as we head into the holiday season, our busiest time of the year, this donation will allow the Food Bank to provide much-needed nutrition to our neighbors in need.”
“We know there are a many people in our area who are in need,” stated Wegmans Mechanicsburg Store Manager Bob Finn. “We are glad we can help those people who are hungry in central PA.”
This is the sixth year of the campaign with Wegmans and WITF. Wegmans has donated more than 120,000 pounds of food to the Food Bank to match donations made to WITF.
