Weis Markets and Riviana Foods Donate 59,000 Boxes of Pasta to Central Pennsylvania Food Bank
On December 21, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank received 59,000 boxes of San Giorgio elbow macaroni and spaghetti from Weis Markets and Riviana Foods. The donation, which is part of the Weis Markets Fight Hunger program, will benefit food insecure residents throughout central Pennsylvania.
The donation, valued at $86,500 will generate more than 230,000 meals for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The food was presented at the Weis Markets store in Enola, PA, where cases of pasta were loaded into the food bank's truck by Weis associates, Riviana, and Food Bank representatives.
"Throughout the holiday season, we become keenly aware of the food insecurity issues in our local communities and what Weis Markets can do to help those in need," said Ron Bonacci, vice president, marketing and advertising for Weis Markets. "Partnerships like the one we've developed with Riviana Foods, provide us with the opportunity to enhance our support for local food banks doing good in the communities we serve."
"We are so thankful to Weis Markets and Riviana Foods for this wonderful donation of San Giorgio pasta," said Joe Arthur, executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. "Pasta is an important staple product and always in high demand, so we are thrilled to be able to provide this abundance of top-quality pasta to our central Pennsylvania neighbors in need."
