To help ensure those most in need in the local community enjoy a Thanksgiving meal, Nabisco and GIANT Food Stores joined forces to support the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Representatives from both organizations were on hand to donate food items and volunteer their time in preparing for the Thanksgiving meals and deliveries at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank.
In addition to their volunteer activities, in-store displays have been up since the beginning of November at numerous GIANT locations to encourage shoppers to make a donation to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank this holiday season to help end hunger in the local community. Custom displays of the Mayflower ship, which proud the Pilgrims to America, were also created at the Carlisle, Linglestown Road, Camp Hill, York and Gettysburg stores for increased awareness.
“A core principle at Nabisco is our support of community programs that can provide access to fresh foods and wholesome snacks that are essential elements of a healthy, joyful life,” said Daniel Shiner, customer business lead, Nabisco. “Our partnership with Feeding America and its local food banks is an effort to make a difference in the lives of the 1 in 6 Americans who too often miss meals. We’ve delivered over 1 billion servings of fresh foods through the Feeding America network and together we’re on track to deliver many more. This holiday season we have partnered with GIANT Food Stores and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank to deliver over $50,000 in Nabisco food donations locally!”
“Fighting hunger is one of our main charitable giving missions year round, but during the holidays there is often a greater need to help aid struggling families in our local communities celebrate with a warm meal on the table,” said Chris Brand, community and public relations manager, GIANT Food Stores. “The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is a longtime partner and we were excited for this opportunity to partner with Nabisco to raise even more awareness in support of hunger relief efforts.”
Earlier this month, GIANT helped kick off the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s annual turkey drive with a donation of 1,000 turkeys this holiday season.
