This September, we are proud to bring you a series of Hunger Hero Stories as part of Hunger Action Month.  These stories will focus on the individuals and organizations who are stepping up and making a difference for those struggling with hunger in our communities, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

#HungerHeroStories

As the chef of the Downtown Daily Bread soup kitchen in Harrisburg, Corrie Lingenfelter has seen how food insecurity can change those who struggle with it.  Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, her organization has been serving 80-100 meals every day.

“I was blessed enough not to have to shut down during COVID-19,” Corrie said.  “We did have to make some changes, like closing our dining room and only offering meals to-go.  I was very insistent that we continue to feed people during this time.”

It’s very important to Corrie to be a resource in her community.  “I know I am using my gift and my resources to change lives.”

Corrie demonstrates what it means to be a Hunger Hero every day.  To learn more about our mission and how you can get involved and help provide meals to partners like Downtown Daily Bread, visit centralpafoodbank.org#HungerActionMonth
