In the Feeding America Hunger in America national study, one in five (20%) of households served by the Feeding America network has at least one member that has served in the military.

Within our 27 county service territory,  26% of households in Central Pennsylvania receiving food assistance have at least one member that has served in the military. This startling statistic inspired the creation of MilitaryShare, a Fresh Express Program of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank designed to provide fresh, nutritious foods for families with at least one member who served in the armed forces.

Our MilitaryShare operates according to the philosophy that veterans have earned the respect and gratitude of our nation and that in return, we shall provide them with nutritious, nourishing food while addressing the triggers of homelessness (lack of job skills, PTSD, substance abuse, etc.).

Veterans and members of the military help us in our nation’s time of need. It’s critical that we help them in theirs. They fought for our freedom. By providing them with food to feed their families, we are fighting for their future.

For the convenience and privacy of the individuals and families served, MilitaryShare distributions take place on-site at armories, VFW and AMVET locations throughout the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank’s 27 county service area.

We aim to be a leading provider of services that improve the lives of veterans and their families by providing the highest quality services; and continuing to create new opportunities in the areas of health.

In our case, the fight is against hunger and despair. PTSD, substance abuse, and other factors contribute to food insecurity, a higher rate of unemployment, and homelessness. If you agree that veterans facing these life-threatening challenges – many of which are the result of serving in combat – deserve more help than the government can provide, we ask you to consider making a donation to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank (please indicate "MilitaryShare" in comments). If mailing a check, include in memo and/or with a note.

Colonel Dave Hall - In His Own Words

In November 2018, we were honored to welcome Retired Air Force Colonel Dave Hall to the Flag Raising Ceremony at our Williamsport Healthy Food Hub.  He spoke to us all and his words stayed with us.  Read a full transcript of his speech at the link below.  His words reflect the reason our MilitaryShare program exists, to serve those who have so honorably served our country.
