The Central PA Food Bank is Grateful for Investments Amid Increased Community Needs.

Food insecurity continues to affect families in every county of Pennsylvania, underscoring the importance of investments in programs that strengthen hunger relief efforts during a time when many households are struggling with the rising costs of food and other essentials.

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is grateful to the Pennsylvania General Assembly for prioritizing support for families facing hunger through the 2027 Pennsylvania State Budget.

The budget includes several important investments that will help strengthen the charitable food network and provide assistance to vulnerable Pennsylvanians:

  • $30.688 million for the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus Program (PASS). This funding enables food pantries and charitable food programs across the Commonwealth to purchase food, maintain inventory, and operate effectively. These resources help local organizations safely and efficiently serve individuals and families experiencing hunger in their communities.
  • $9.579 million for Farmers Market Food Coupons: This program helps connect eligible individuals and families with fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables while also supporting Pennsylvania farmers and local economies. The investment improves access to healthy food and strengthens communities throughout the state.
  • $7 million for the Department of Health to allocate to CHIP benefit cards. This measure will help to protect SNAP benefits and ensure vulnerable families are able to receive assistance in their time of need.

Addressing hunger requires a collective commitment from government, community organizations, volunteers, and donors. While there is still work to do during the hunger crisis we continue to face, we are grateful for these investments that help ensure more Pennsylvania families can put nutritious food on the table and access the support they need.
