Donation will support Food Bank’s crisis recovery efforts in 27 central PA counties
Harrisburg, PA – The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank announced today it received a grant for $25,000 from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S., which will be used to support the organization’s crisis recovery efforts across the 27 counties it serves in central PA.
“We are honored to receive our first gift from Bayer Fund,” said Joe Arthur, executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “This gift will provide more than 150,000 meals to families still making hard decisions between buying groceries or paying for other critical expenses in the wake of rising costs and record inflation. We are grateful for the support of Bayer Fund and their commitment to feeding families in our communities.”
The Food Bank is one of the largest charitable food organizations in central PA, serving more than 152,000 people each month through a network of more than 1,200 partner agencies and programs. Gifts like the one from Bayer Fund will continue to support the Food Bank in its crisis recovery work in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and will allow the Food Bank to continue to provide thousands of healthy, nutritious meals to those in need throughout its 27-county service area.
“Throughout the years, the grants given through Bayer Fund have helped strengthen our communities across the United States,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “We’re proud to be able to provide support to develop programs that help combat challenges such as food insecurity, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education and support services to patients and families managing an illness or disease.”
In 2021, Bayer Fund awarded more than $13.1 million to over 3,400 charitable and nonprofit organizations to help address essential needs in food and nutrition, STEM education and community development. Over the last five years, nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received more than $75 million.
