Harrisburg, PA – The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank announced today it received a grant for $50,000 from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S., which will be used to support the food security network in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania.

“We are honored to receive this generous gift from Bayer Fund,” said Joe Arthur, executive director of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. “This gift will provide hundreds of thousands of meals to families and individuals in Lebanon County who are faced with hard choices between buying groceries and paying for other critical expenses in the wake of rising costs and record inflation. We are grateful for the support of Bayer Fund and their commitment to feeding families in our communities.”

The Food Bank is one of the largest charitable food organizations in central PA, serving more than 150,000 people each month through a network of more than 1,100 partner agencies and programs in 27 counties. In Lebanon County, the Food Bank works with 22 local partner organizations to feed more than 8,400 families and individuals in the county who do not have access to enough nutritious food. According to the most recent data from Feeding America, 1 in 10 Lebanon County residents live with food insecurity. Gifts like the one from Bayer Fund will continue to support the Food Bank in its mission of fighting hunger, improving lives, and strengthening communities and will allow the Food Bank to continue to provide thousands of healthy, nutritious meals to those in need in Lebanon County.

“Throughout the years, the grants given through Bayer Fund have helped strengthen our communities across the United States,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “We’re proud to be able to provide support to develop programs like those of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank that help combat the critical issue of food insecurity and ultimately help ensure even more Americans have access to healthy, nutritious food.”

In 2021, Bayer Fund awarded more than $13.1 million to over 3,400 charitable and nonprofit organizations to help address essential needs in Food and Nutrition, STEM Education and Health & Wellness. Over the last five years, nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received more than $75 million.
