Fresh produce moves through CPFB's partner network to reach neighbors across central Pennsylvania

Help Us Raise $340,000 for Fresh Food for Summer

Fresh fruits and vegetables are essential to the health and well-being of our neighbors. As the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank faces multiple produce sourcing challenges this summer, your gift is vital to help fill the gap with two months’ worth of fresh food for the most vulnerable members of our community.

Every $1 donated helps provide approximately 3 pounds of fresh produce to neighbors across central Pennsylvania.

Why Donate to Provide Fresh Produce?

Fresh produce is one of the clearest ways we help neighbors access not just more food, but healthier, more nutritious food. Fruits and vegetables help families prepare balanced meals, stretch limited grocery budgets, and support the health of children, seniors, and neighbors managing diet-related health needs.

Central Pennsylvania is facing a dual agricultural and economic crisis:

  • Federal funding through Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) have cut our produce sourcing budget by $170,000 each month.
  • Rising food and logistics costs have made commercial produce more expensive than ever.
  • A severe spring freeze damaged essential crops across the region. In a Pennsylvania Farm Bureau survey, 221 of 250 respondents reported being negatively impacted by the freeze, with nearly a third of the farmers facing total crop loss. Fruit crops saw the greatest impact, leading to shortages of popular choices like apples, peaches, grapes, pears, plums, cherries, and apricots. This campaign is about more than filling a short-term gap. It helps sustain access to fresh fruits and vegetables for neighbors while supporting the regional food system that makes this work possible.

“I would love to be able to fill a Food Bank truck, but unfortunately, we just can’t this year.”
