The Hollinger Family, friends of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, created a $75,000 match fund for the Food Bank this past holiday season. Their generosity inspired others to give and helped raise more than $150,000 with their match. This allowed the Food Bank to provide more than 900,000 meals throughout the holiday season and beyond.

The COVID-19 crisis revealed how vulnerable so many Pennsylvanians are to hunger. Food insecurity in central Pennsylvania is 11 percent higher than it was in 2019. More than 337,000 of our neighbors in central Pennsylvania are still working hard to get back on their feet in the wake of the pandemic. Many may be back to work but still face overdue bills and other expenses from the past 20 months. As variants of the COVID virus emerge, there is still uncertainty about when the economy will make a full recovery.

Prices for many household goods and services are surging, putting further strain on family budgets, with no end in sight. So many of our neighbors are forced to make impossible choices between paying for groceries or paying for other critical needs such as housing, transportation, and childcare.

With the generous support of the community, including the Hollinger Family and our many compassionate donors, Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and its partners will always be here when times get tough, providing extra assistance when families, individuals, children and seniors and veterans need it most.
