This September, we are proud to bring you a series of Hunger Hero Stories as part of Hunger Action Month.  These stories will focus on the individuals and organizations who are stepping up and making a difference for those struggling with hunger in our communities, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

#HungerHeroStories

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Pastor Bob of Grace House Ministries in Harrisburg remained committed to feeding families struggling with hunger in his community.  His group immediately moved their food distributions to outside of their building, following pandemic safety protocols.  They also began delivering food to high risk individuals and clients that did not have transportation.  They handed out emergency food boxes by appointment on days they did not have regular distributions.  And this summer, Grace House Ministries participated in the summer meals for children program, handing out meal boxes to families with children.

“Having access to nutritious food is a basic need for health,” said Pastor Bob.  “Helping to get food to those in need is a way of showing love and concern for the community.  During this time of change and uncertainty, being able to have a consistent supply of healthy food will bring a security and comfort to families in need.”

We are grateful for the work Pastor Bob and Grace House Ministries do in their communities every day.  To learn more about the work that we are doing with partners across 27 central Pennsylvania counties, visit www.centralpafoodbank.org.  #HungerActionMonth
