This September, we are proud to bring you a series of Hunger Hero Stories as part of Hunger Action Month.  These stories will focus on the individuals and organizations who are stepping up and making a difference for those struggling with hunger in our communities, especially in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

#HungerHeroStories

Wanda and Harry Hurst have been volunteering at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for seven years, often seen packing MilitaryShare and ElderShare boxes, or helping our Development team with mailings or volunteering at our annual Soup and a Bowl event.  COVID-19 did not slow them down.  They have continued volunteering their time packing crisis response boxes; and doing their own remote work – taking home thousands of letters and envelopes every week to be stuffed and mailed.

“We have been fortunate to help out in many areas of the Food Bank.  During the pandemic, the need for additional assistance has been apparent and we are more than happy to help,” Wanda and Harry say.  “The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is an easy and useful organization with which to volunteer our time.  The staff are sincere in their commitment to the mission and we enjoy being part of such an organization.”

We are proud of Wanda and Harry’s commitment, and pleased to honor them as a 2020 Hunger Hero.  To learn more about how you can get involved and volunteer, visit www.centralpafoodbank.org/HAM.  #HungerActionMonth
