When can I volunteer?

  • Our volunteer needs are changing daily, please sign-up on our website.
  • All volunteer experiences will be scheduled in advance.

How old do I have to be volunteer?

  • For safety reasons during the COVID 19 crisis, we are only accepting volunteers over the age of 18.

Where can I put my personal belongings?

  • All volunteer packing opportunities are taking place offsite. We encourage you not to bring any personal belongings or plan to lock them safely in your car.

What should I wear?

  • As a COVID 19 precaution you MUST wear an approved (homemade or CPFB-issued) face mask.
  • You MUST wear closed-toe shoes, preferably heavy work boots (no sandals, flip-flops or opened-toe shoes are permitted).
  • Dress comfortably and respectfully. We recommend wearing clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
  • Layers are recommended as the temperature in the Central Packing Operation fluctuates.
  • Work gloves will be provided.

Where can I eat?

  • You may eat any light snacks at break time, but must adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.

Where do I park?

  • Instructions for parking at the Central Packing Operation will be shared when your shift is scheduled.

Can I get proof of my volunteer time?

  • Yes. Have your proof of participation sheet filled out prior to your arrival.

What types of projects are available at the Healthy Food Hubs?

  • During the COVID 19 crisis we are only packing Crisis Response Boxes.  You will be on your feet during your entire shift.

Do I need to bring anything when I volunteer?

  • Beyond the required shoes and clothing, we will provide you with everything you need to complete your volunteer projects. We encourage you not to bring any personal belongings.

Can you accommodate volunteers with disabilities?

  • Yes. Please contact our volunteer coordinators to discuss the accommodations you might need so we can set-up a successful volunteer experience. What if I need to cancel my volunteer shift?

  • If for some reason you can’t make your scheduled volunteer time, please let us know as soon as possible.

Where is the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank located?

  • PLEASE NOTE: During the COVID-19 crisis, all volunteers will serve at the offsite Central Packing Operation. Details and directions to the location will be given when your shift is scheduled.

What counties does the Food Bank serve?

  • Our Harrisburg location serves the following PA counties: Adams, Bedford, Blair, Centre, Clearfield, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Northumberland, Perry, Snyder and York.
  • Our Williamsport location serves the following counties in the Northern Tier of PA: Bradford, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Potter, Sullivan, Tioga and Union.

At this time, all available volunteering is taking place at our larger, off-site Central Packing Operations facility in Harrisburg.  All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
